Five Rules for Healthy Nails

Ditch the brittle, and get beautiful, healthy nails. Follow these five easy nail commandments for strong, flawless nails.

1 - Keep your hands hydrated, always!

Avoid dry patches, flakiness, splitting and peeling by using a hand moisturiser daily. Look out for hand creams with Vitamin E, a super antioxidant that comforts and repairs the skin leaving hands soft, supple and rejuvenated. Nail and cuticle oils with Vitamin E will prevent cracking and splitting of your nails too!

Pro Tip: If you're in need of a quick hydration boost, lather your hands in a moisturising hand cream and wear latex or vinyl disposable gloves for 45 minutes. Your hands will be left feeling soft and supple.

2 - Supplements for strength

If you suffer from brittle and weak nails that split, look into taking daily silica or vitamin E supplements. Miss Vitality Co Enzyme Q10 is packed with anti-ageing antioxidants including Vitamin E which speeds up the skin's' healing and regeneration process. Giving you healthier hair, skin and nails, faster!

3 - Treat yourself to a weekly manicure

Whether you treat yourself to a manicure or have a professional work on them for you, it's important to keep them shaped and healthy. If you'd rather DIY from the comfort of your couch, follow these simple manicure steps. First, remove nail polish and file to your ideal shape. Soften cuticles with a Vitamin E oil and push them back with a wet nail stone. Dry and apply your base coat of polish, two coats of colour and a top coat.

Pro Tip: Always file nails in one direction to a smooth and clean shape. Filing back and forth can cause splitting.

4 - Fend off fake nails

Although they can look spectacular and chic, acrylic or false nails can lead to infection or in the long-term, weak and brittle nails. Opt for gel polish instead and always make sure you give your nails a few days break in between manicures.

5 - Wear protection

Whether it's doing the dishes or pulling weed, keep a pair of gloves handy. submerging hands in hot soapy water can dry them out, while gardening can damage your nails. Wear gloves and avert crisis!
