Dermalogica Review: Phyto Replenish Oil

I’ve always believed there was no such thing as a non-oily facial oil… until now! Dermalogica’s latest innovation in treatment oils has been formulated to give your dull, tired skin an all-day dewy glow.

Although it may seem that Dermalogica is a late-comer in the facial oil party, the truth is they were pioneers in the early days with their now cult-status PreCleanse.

My skin is normal to combination, and oily skincare products are usually not my friend. The fear of breakouts and a high-shine are at the forefront of my skincare and makeup decisions… and a facial-oil would generally be at the bottom of my list, making this very interesting.

Unlike many other facial oils, you’ll find the Phyto Replenish Oil to be feather-light, and from the moment I applied it to my skin, it rapidly absorbed. To apply, I tipped the glass bottle upside down to release 4-6 drops into my palm, before pressing the oil into my forehead, cheeks and chin.

Dermalogica recommend applying your moisturiser immediately after applying the Phyto Replenish Oil, or mixing the oil with your moisturiser before application. However, for this review I decided to massage the oil into my skin following Dermalogica’s Dewy Facial Massage technique (see below), before applying my Dermalogica Active Moist moisturiser.

The first thing I noticed when applying the oil is the beautiful and subtle floral scents. The silky oil glides effortlessly when massaging, while rapidly absorbing into the skin. My skin instantly appeared dewier and more radiant, but it’s what you can’t see right away that is most impressive about Phyto Replenish.

The oil works in three-phase approach to replenishing protective lipids that are depleted by ageing and environmental stress. First, phytoactives from Camellia and Tamanu oils help restore the skin’s natural barrier. Then, an essential lipid blend that includes Orchid Flower and Chia Seed Oil smoothes visible lines and locks in critical moisture. Finally, Sunflower, Rice Bran and Rosemary Extracts create a luminous antioxidant shield against free radical damage.

Although the oil is ideal for daily use on normal to dry skin, it works well for those who have combination to oily skin in the cooler months when skin is the driest.
